Micaela Dahlberg

May 10 - June 8, 2008

Micaela Dahlberg imagery probably comes from the Exvoto tradition. Every painting, often in a small format, is seemingly narrative and contains surreal and symbolic elements. Her colour scheme is exotic, folkloristic and oriental.

With small strokes Dahlberg creates compositions that depict absurd events in a strong naturalistic manner.

Each painting is a solitaire in which nothing is added by random. As a beholder one can wonder whether Micaela Dahlberg creates her motifs before or after the events that she depicts actually has taken place; or if they ever did happened at all.

In the Swedish art world one can easily see connections to Helmer Osslunds humble paintings of the Nordic landscape and on an international level there is a strong kinship with Frida Kahlo’s heavily symbolic painting.
