Håvard Vikhagen was born in 1952 in Hjortungavåg outside of Ålsesund in Norway. Today he lives and works in Oslo. Since graduating from The Art Academy in Oslo in the 1980:ies Vikhagen has been rated one of Norway’s most important artist, specially within the neo-exprssive genre connected to painters as Edvard Munch and Ludvig Karsten. Throughout Vikahegn’s work has been recognised in several solo exhibitions, for example at contemporary art museum Astrup Fernely. At the beginning of the 1990:ies his paintings  participated in a major exhibition travelling around the country arranged by the Museum of Contempoary Art entitled The Coulours of Expressionism. Vikhagen is represented in leading private collections as well as within major Norwegian art institutions such as Nasjonalmuseet, Astrup Fearnley Museet for Moderne Kunst and Riksgalleriet.

 

Stavanger Art Associaton is currently exhibiting, amongst other works a series of paintings by Vikhagen based on the novel Out Stealing Horses written by Per Petterson. The novel that has been translated into numerous languages received world-wide recognition a few years ago. The Norwegian publishing house Bokklubben has issued a special edition featuring Vikhagen’s images.
