August 25 – September 18, 2011

Opening Thursday August 25, 5-8pm

This season opens with three separate exhibitions presenting new abstract works by Hans Andersson, Erik Jeor and Juri Markkula.

"Hans Andersson’s pictures sum up the human impression of an outer and an inner world. A trip to China, photographs from a Chinese family album, composed geometrical forms, traces of destinies. What appears as fragments of an existence (or many) are redefined into separate entities and becomes as such reflections and projections of the human need to create meaning.” (Carl Abrahamsson, 2011)

Erik Jeor has created a series of four watercolour paintings in dialog with Morton Feldman’s The King of Denmark for solo percussionist. Each painting inhabits an individual score and within the tension between control and chance these works express something that cannot be repeated. What happens next? Does death allow for movement? Is death quiet?

Juri Markkula presents a series of paintings, which are the result of experiments with both materials and the working processes. This operation has resulted in paintings that at first glance appear monochrome, due to a specific paint based on microscopic prisms the monocromity of the work is questioned.

Hidden Mother will perform Morton Feldman's The King of Denmark at the reception at 7:30pm.
